So where was I last.... oh yes. Mini Makeover time
I decided I wanted to look sexier, more big city, but still me.
Not hoochy, not ultra stylish, just a bit more refined... me.
I started with the hair. No more rhinestone clip or braid. Flowy but still out of my face, else it would drive me nuts while writing on the computer.
Before starting on my clothes, I decided to check my messages.
Oh no!!! I got an email reminding me that bills are due today. And there is no, none, zero zilch money left. Not even a single simoleon inside the couch cushions!
And poor Ashton's food dish is also empty. He might have gotten pretty good at hunting and enjoys eating the fish he catches, but soon it will be winter and his food supply will be hidden beneath a thick layer of ice.
All freaked out I called my parents and told them about my email. Mom tried to calm me down and Dad, ever the practical, told me I could come home anytime I needed to.
Heck no. Sorry daddy, but this girl ain't crawling back to backwater Simtown if she can help it at all.
We ended the call with our usual "I love you" and I put the phone down slowly.
I had some thinking to do. Ice cream helps me think. Don't judge.
That I was down to the very last pint of freezer burned vanilla only drove the situation home some more.
I finally remembered that my school friend Anne had moved to the big city too.
We had not exactly parted on the best terms the last time, one of her fairy pranks gone wrong, but surely my former best friend would consider putting me and Ashton up for a little while?
Anne seemed happy to hear from me! Still a tad ambivalent I imagine but she agreed to let us stay with her until I get back on my feet. (But I did have to agree to ignore the vanishing walls and textures in her house. I think I will survive...) Take that destiny! Celeste is staying in the city! *awkward celebration dance*
And this time, I would not squander my time away but make good use of it. I am almost an adult, darn it, and I need to be more mature about money and life in general.
Maybe I should start with using actual swear words too....
But first I had to get this house ready to hand over. I threw on whatever was still clean. (That's what happens when you are as smart as me and only buy a hamper but no washer or dryer. *face palm*) The moment I started cleaning, the sink in the kitchen broke. Water shot EVERYWHERE.
It mixed with the dirty clothes all over the floor. It was such a mess....
While I was desperately trying to fix the leak, my phone kept ringing.
I think it was Barett, but I sadly had no time to talk to him. The.. situation with him was a distraction I didn't need while losing my home and everything I owned.
I finally finished fixing the sink and cleaning the house.
After a deep breath I handed over the keys and left my old home behind.
Ashton and I were greeted by Mr. Smurt when we reached Anne's home. I was still not sure why she had a broom stick holder next to the door, her being a fairy and all, but it really is none of my business.
At least the fairy house in the front yard was familiar. (The parties she threw in that tiny thing, you wouldn't believe! One time in our senior year.... but I am getting off track.)
After an awkward hello, Anne let it rip. She had been so mad at me for not calling her after our last fight. She had lost me, her best friend, over a silly, non-consequential prank gone wrong and she was still steaming about it.
I couldn't really blame her. I had been hurt and instead of working through it, I had shut her out of my life. Writing had become an escape and I hadn't even missed her after a while... much.
I decided not to mention the dirty clothes on the floor, and rather apologized to Anne. There was no reason to rehash old grievances and I could almost not remember why I had been so mad at all.
"Maybe we could just start over?"
Anne agreed to that, but demanded that we let out our feelings in a spirited pillow fight first. Man, the girl whacked me good. Anne definitely had practiced her swing since I had last seen her. She was right though, it cleared away all the left over tensions, leaving us with a blank slate to redefine our friendship.
(This was definitely a better way of getting "in touch with our feelings" than the time she made me meditate in the yard with her for hours.... the only feelings I got in touch with that time was the shivers from all the creepy crawlies all over me.)
After rolling out my sleeping bag on the floor, I decided to make us some dinner. We had lots to catch up on.
I settled on pancakes. I was sick to death of salad and needed comfort food.
I thanked Anne for letting me sleep at her house again. She waved it off. "Anything for a friend." Awww, I sure had loved her in school. She had been always there for me when it counted.
(Just don't expect her to be on time, ever. She runs on Anne time which is nowhere near real time.)
We shared stories and feelings over the pancakes I had made. I told her all about Barett, his girl friend, my crush and our magical moment under the stars. I also ranted on and on about the woes a self employed writer faces on her stony way to becoming a professional author.
Anne told me she was dating a guy named Franklin, that she was working in a photography career, but that she was considering throwing in the towel to start mixing fancy drinks and rocking the clubs as a bartender. She was dreaming of mastering mixology.
Meanwhile, Ashton and Mr. Smurt had become acquainted and Ashton went outside to explore. Anne had set up a nice yard with a bar, a fire pit and a picnic table. Too bad it was fall and too cold for outside parties.
While Anne was in the shower, I sat down at my computer (one of the only things I saved from my old home). The snow began to fall as winter had moved in along with us, and feeling almost peaceful I started to surf the web.
I ended up checking up on Barett's SimSpace profile again. Still as gorgeous as ever, still already spoken for. *sighs*
I was wiped. The day had been stressful, long and the changes in my life weighed on me. I decided to go to sleep. Burrowing deep into my sleeping back, I fell asleep almost instantly.
While I was sleeping, Anne began setting up her own online dating profile. Uh oh, trouble in paradise with Franklin? We will have to see....

Running out of money was unintentional (as was the washer/dryer oversight) but I decided to make the best of it and it fit nicely into Celeste's struggles and gave me an entry into completing her household with a helper.
Mr- Smurt and Ashton are just adorable with each other :)
